Do you know if aluminum fly screen for windows would be sufficient protection to make a faraday cage? I have read that aluminum foil is NOT good enough. Any help as I am lost as to how proceed?
ANSWER FROM MIKE WRIGHT: Your best option would be to experiment. You did not say what source you read that said aluminum foil would not work. It can work, but then foil is not screen mesh. And despite what anyone is writing about with respect to Faraday cage shielding, no one has been through a major solar event to know from experience for certain what works and what does not.
I suggest you buy a simple 9-volt battery powered AM radio to use as your test equipment. The best would be an old one or a really basic one with a manual wheel for selecting station frequencies. For your control session, simply set a slightly loud volume level on the radio and then dial in the strongest station, a few weaker stations, and then run the wheel to both the low and high end of the spectrum and listen to the static.
Next, set your radio to the strongest station and put it inside your test material (such as the fly screen). How well can you hear the station? Is the quality the same as when you listened (at the same volume) to the station during your control session? Do the same for each weaker station and the low and high ends of the AM spectrum (static).
In this way, you will be able to find what shielding set-up works best with AM radio frequencies. That will give you a clue as to what material and how much to use to shield your other devices. If you test material will not shield conventional AM radio signals, it will certainly be of little use for solar-geomagnetic storm pulses. This type of testing is actually a way to rule out what will NOT work. If you want certainty as to what WILL work, you will probably want to consult an EM shielding specialist but that will likely cost you more than a basic AM radio.
Question to Andy Hoffman: I know you cashed in all your IRA and 401-K funds for physical precious metals. In a recent newsletter, you stated you only really paid a 10% penalty to do so.
I have a fairly large amount of money in Roth IRA's. Most of the money is invested in precious metals. What is keeping me from cashing in on the Roth funds to get physical metal that I can hold in my hand is the tax implications. If I keep the funds as is, they appreciate tax free. If I cash out, I could end up paying a significant tax on the appreciation of the physical metal I buy thereafter, much more than 10% penalty you paid.
Do you still recommend I cash out?
As for the cashing out of my IRA and 401k plans, yes the penalty is just 10% if done before age 59 1/2. Of course, you will also have to pay income tax on the withdrawal; as such funds are always pre-tax (although many people do not know that).
As for your Roth IRAs, the situation can be more difficult if you mean your "precious metals" holdings within them are in physical form. You certainly will pay taxes on your withdrawal, as well as the 10% penalty if you are under 59 1/2 years old. Thus, unless you have other sources of cash to pay the taxes and penalty, you would have to liquidate some of the physical metals to pay them.
Of course, if your IRA "precious metal holdings" are in "paper gold and silver" such as ETFs, closed-end funds, or mining stocks, you could simply liquidate them to pay your taxes and penalty.
Either way, I feel strongly that ANY and ALL draconian measures will be undertaken by the government when the END GAME commences, including potentially seizure or mandatory investment (into T-Bonds, for example).
It is up to everyone to determine how much PROTECTION they feel comfortable with, but as soon as you understand that IRA funds are PRE-TAX, your decision-making process should be eased. - Andy Hoffman

Last year in Malaysia, an Islamic currency was introduced as an alternative to fiat currencies. Gold and silver Dirhmas, about 625,000 dollars worth, had been introduced to the public for everyday transactions. The Dinar coins are set to Islamic law, 4.25 grams of gold and 3.0 grams of silver. Ever since the Euro zone bond markets first started to get the jitters, hedge fund managers have been whispering that gold could play a part in resolving the crisis. When I came to the Follow Up (Labor Day) I had no earnest money but did have a Letter of Intent to Purchase on my practice. The offer was HALF the value of my office, the doctor was kind hearted but inexperienced and I was worried about leaving the families in my office to her care. I planned on accepting and signing on it when I returned just to get to Washington.
For one year I had focused on two card
s- one was "Sold!" - House and practice. But I was really getting edgy about the timing.
As you suggested I made a card with my full value asking price on it. I had my daughter with me so each morning my mother would keep her so I could have the first hour or so uninterrupted. I never found my card that weekend (although my kid did many times) and actually had very little time to do my work being in the "Pink" zone.
I returned 'home' without my daughter, ready to sign and be done.
The next week, "out of the blue" (Void), I had a Doc sign a confidentiality agreement on Wednesday - he came to look at the practice on Thursday and made an offer on Friday. He is the PERFECT fit, a great guy; his father in law gave him the money so within two weeks he was in the office and transitioning with patients!!! AND, I got a check for the full amount ... and a small bit more.
Oh, yes, I also closed on my house on the East Coast that week too - for my asking price!!!
